V Fest Fans Raise £30K

Festivalgoers at this year’s V Fest in Staffordshire raised more than £33,000 for charity through a glass bottle exchange and trolley hire service.

The money was raised for England-based Village Water, which enables African villages to source water and establish a clean supply, according to the Shorpshire Star.

The good deeds carried on to the V Fest’s sold-out Chelmsford leg, where more than 200 volunteers helped to move more than 800 tents that will be sold to raise money for charity, according to the Braintree & Witham Times.

But not all fans at the twinned V Fests were so friendly over the Aug. 20-21 weekend, including those at Chelmsford who threw bottles at Glasvegas and booed the band off the stage four songs into its set.

The reason is thought to be the rock band’s inclusion at the festival’s Arena Stage, which is more geared toward R&B and electronic music. Glasvegas was sandwiched between R&B singer Katy B and drum & bass duo Chase And Status.

The band’s management sent the following statement regarding the set:

“The line up of the Arena Stage is very different from ‘rock n’ roll,’ but it really doesn’t matter what genre. Glasvegas respect this and will always give the crowd 100%.

“All we want is for everyone, including the band, to have a good time and go home safely.”

This year’s V Fest lineup included Eminem, Rihanna, Arctic Monkeys, Plan B, Dizzee Rascal and Kaiser Chiefs.
