Taser Settlement Approved

A Colorado college has approved a $140,000 settlement to a man who was Tasered by police during a Lyle Lovett concert in July 2009.

Patrick Hegarty alleged in a suit filed the following March that campus police used excessive force and violated his constitutional rights when they tried to remove him from the concert.

The settlement agreement does not include an admission of guilt by the college or its employees for the incident, triggered when fans nearby accused Hegarty of being disorderly.

Hegarty called one officer a “fascist,” was Tasered four times and arrested on suspicion of drunk and disorderly conduct, according to the Durango Herald.
