Taane Charges Dropped

Western Bay of Plenty police dropped charges filed against New Zealand musician Tiki Taane.

The performer was arrested in April at Illuminati nightclub after police heard him sing NWA’s “Fuck Tha Police” while they removed a patron from the club.

Police Inspector Karl Wright-St. Clair said that arresting officers thought the singer was trying to inflame the situation.

“After the mediation meeting the police are now clear that this was not his intention,” Wright-St. Clair said.

But bar promoter Patricio Alvarez-Riveros, 24, was also arrested at the time and charged with obstructing police and resisting arrest will appear in court Oct. 4.
