R.O.M.P. Festival Eyes Safety Measures

Officials with the International Bluegrass Museum in Owensboro, Ky., are considering new safety measures for future festivals in light of the recent Indiana State Fair stage collapse that killed seven.

One suggestion included the construction of a permanent stage at Yellow Creek Park, where the museum hosts the R.O.M.P. Bluegrass Roots & Branches Festival that draws thousands annually.

Another idea is the formation of a team to coordinate communications between the festival, parks department and emergency services in the event of an emergency.

A thunderstorm during this year’s festival extensively damaged nearby areas but left the park untouched.

Acts to play R.O.M.P. 2011 included Steve Martin with Steep Canyon Rangers, Emmylou Harris and Carolina Chocolate Drops, among others.
