Virgin Relaxes Baggage Allowances

Virgin Australia airline loosened up baggage allowance for the local music industry.

Artists can now claim an allowance of 32kg, buy an additional 32kg for A$15 (US$15.80), and pool their allowance across their entourage.

The deal was struck with the Australian Music Industry Network, a collection of peak music associations. The baggage allowance will be available only to members of these associations.

“Dealing with high and inconsistent excess baggage charges has been a burning issue across the music industry for many years,” AMIN director Denise Foley said. Musicians have long complained that instruments consigned to the luggage hold end up wrecked.
