Lavigne Fan Found Guilty
A jury in Carol Stream, Ill., recently found a man guilty of killing his 61-year-old mother when she wouldn’t get him tickets to see Avril Lavigne.
Robert Lyons, who shared a condo with his mother Linda Bolek, was convicted of first-degree murder after prosecutors argued Lyons became violent when Bolek refused to ask a friend of hers for skybox tickets to see Lavigne.
Prosecutors claimed he hit Bolek in the head with a champagne bottle, stabbed her several times in the back and then called several friends and told them he struggled with his mother after she attacked him with a kitchen knife.
He was arrested hours later at a Hooters restaurant in Schaumburg, Ill.
Lyons’ defense attorneys argued during the case that he unintentionally killed his mother after she threatened him with a knife during the argument.
Lyons faces up to life in prison.
