Coldplay Gives Cold Shoulder

Coldplay won’t be making its latest album, “Mylo Xyloto,” available to online streaming services such as Spotify and Rhapsody.

That decision could just prompt fans to do the unthinkable – buy the actual album.

The band’s label, EMI, said in a statement, “We always work with our artists and their management on a case-by-case basis to deliver the best outcome for each release.”

Customers usually pay about $10 a month to pick any track or album from millions on file.

Customers can listen on demand via online streaming as well as download songs to mobile devices.

However, the artists are paid only a fraction of a penny every time the songs are listened to.

Rhapsody President Jon Irwin said he respects the band’s decision and that he needs to do a better job of explaining to artists the benefits of being involved with subscription services.
