Robin Gibb Diagnosed With Liver Cancer

Britain’s Sunday Mirror reports that Gibb was diagnosed with liver cancer several months ago. The 61-year-old singer was taken to the hospital Nov. 15 from his home in Thame, Oxfordshire, following a 999 emergency call. He was released after five hours. The British tabloid noted that Gibb’s brother/bandmate Barry and their mother flew in from the U.S. to visit the singer.

The Sunday Mirror didn’t specify why Gibb was taken to the hospital. A supposedly close family friend told the paper that Gibb’s condition was “not good.”

Last month a statement on Gibb’s official website announced he had been admitted to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, to undergo tests for abdominal pain and to be treated for inflammation of the colon.

A statement said it was “a difficult time for him and his family” and requested that “his privacy be respected.” An Oct. 17 update to the post said Gibb was released after several days and was home recovering.

In early April Gibb canceled a Brazil tour because of abdominal pain. The year before he underwent surgery for a blocked intestine.

Robin and Barry are the two surviving members of the Bee Gees. Their brother (and Robin’s twin) Maurice died in 2003 because of complications from a twisted intestine.
