Hosted by nonprofit LifeQuest Military Transitions and set for Jan. 19-23 in Colorado Springs, the camp features singer/songwriter Darden Smith working with veterans to bring their experiences to light.

In 2011 Smith headed up a team of professional singer/songwriters along with nine servicemen and women at the first Songwriting Camp For Veterans. Songs written during the retreat were performed at the Faces Of Freedom concert on Sept. 11 at Colorado Springs’ World Arena. The songs are also available on iTunes.

Songs written during the 2012 camp will complete a full album that’s currently in planning stages.

“The retreat is like a revival of the soul,” 2011 camp participant / former Army Combat Engineer John Wall said. “We’ve been in such dark places, seen so much evil, that this weekend is an awakening. This is what soldiers need.”
