Odds & Ends: Sinead O’Connor, Gary Glitter, Merle Haggard & Hardcore For Fido
Sinead Depressed?
Saying she’s “gonna be off the radar for few weeks,” Irish singer Sinead O’Connor said she’s going to the hospital to be treated for depression and that she won’t be tweeting for a while. Of course, she issued those announcements via Twitter.
These days it seems as if the lady that used to make news with her music has been living her public life via Twitter. Fans became concerned in September when she sent a series of tweets saying she had suicidal thoughts. More recently, she announced her engagement, wedding, breakup and reconciliation via Twitter.
This week O’Connor says she’s going to be hospitalized for depression.
“I be grand in few weeks,” O’Connor tweeted. “Was right decision to call hospital. They fab. Good team. I be me again in 2 weeks they say.”
At this time O’Connor’s brief U.S. tour of Los Angeles and New York is still on, scheduled to kick off at L.A.’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery Feb. 20.
Glitter On Twitter
Disgraced rocker Gary Glitter is planning a comeback. That is, if the person sending tweets under his name is the real deal.
There was a time when Glitter was a respected British glam rocker. His “Rock and Roll, Parts One and Two” were played over sound systems at sporting events and his annual Christmas tours in England often sold out. Of course, that was before 1999 when he was convicted of possessing child pornography. Moving to Vietnam in March 2005, he was convicted later that year of molesting two girls under the age of 12. Released from prison in 2008, he moved back to England after Thailand and Hong Kong refused to admit him.
Now someone using the handle “OfficialGlitter” is sending tweets claiming he’s going to make a comeback. Twitter hasn’t verified the account, but OfficialGlitter says it’s “in the process.”
What else does OfficialGlitter say? Mainly that he’s “putting the past behind” him and that he’s focusing on the music and that he’s working on his autobiography as well as a new album and a comeback tour.
And how is the Twitterverse reacting to Glitter?
“I’ve reached the 10,000 mark,” OfficialGlitter tweeted about his followers. “Too many to scroll back and find who exactly was the 10,000th one, so thank you everyone!”
Merle Still Ailin’
Yesterday we told you that illness had forced country great Merle Haggard to postpone one gig and cancel two others this week. Now the word is that the rest of his January calendar isn’t happening as planned.
Blame it on pneumonia. Remaining January dates were Lulu, Miss., at the Isle Of Capri Casino Jan. 20; Fort Worth, Texas, at Billy Bob’s Jan. 21 and Tulsa, Okla., at River Spirit Casino Jan. 22.
The Isle of Capri’s Jan. 20 show will be rescheduled and Mel Tillis will perform a free concert in place of Haggard on Friday night. The Fort Worth date has been canceled and Haggard’s Tulsa gig has been rescheduled for April 29.
Hardcore For Dogs
We woke up this morning thinking the world needs more kids creating hardcore videos honoring their pets. This video that’s been getting a lot of views today was the answer to our prayers.
Produced by Rob Sharpe, the singer is an eight-year-old Australian lass named Juliet. Oh, and her dog’s name is Robert. Enjoy.
