Adele Changes Her Mind About Time Off

Maybe winning six Grammy awards changes things. Or maybe Adele was just speaking off-the-cuff during her interview. Either way, the British singer has clarified a few remarks she made in the March issue of “Vogue” about taking a break.

The Vogue cover story, which featured interviews that took place in December, was posted online Sunday night after the Grammy Awards. The March issue hits newsstands Feb. 21.

Vogue wrote that “after she makes up the last of the concerts that were canceled last year she plans to go away for a long while,” noting that she’s already relocated to the countryside near Brighton, England, where her boyfriend, Simon Konecki, runs his charity Drop4Drop.

When asked about her future, Adele told Vogue:

“I am fucking off for four or five years. If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy. And then I don’t know what I’ll do. Get married. Have some kids. Plant a nice vegetable patch.”

She also said that she would wait a few years to write her next record because she wouldn’t release any new music “until it’s better than 21. I’m not expecting to sell as many records, but I don’t want to release shit. Also, I have nothing to write about! I’d be lying. And that would go against everything I’ve ended up building for myself. So, yeah, I will need at least three years to write a record.”

On Tuesday Adele posted on her blog about the Grammy awards, writing that Sunday was “the most incredible night” of her life and thanked her fans for their support. The post, titled “5 Was My Favourite Number But Now It’s 6,” ended with a reference to the Vogue cover story.

“I’ve a few days off now, and then it’s the Brit Awards here at home and then I’m straight into the studio. BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!”

Adele’s U.K. spokesman told BBC News that the Vogue quote about taking five years off was “just an off-hand comment.”
