UNM Arena On Fire Watch

A broken ventilation system inside University of New Mexico Arena has led to fire watch patrols during basketball games.

UNM officials tell KRQE-TV that while fans are watching the action on the court, high up in the rafters, staffers wearing orange vests patrol along catwalks looking for any signs of a fire.

UNM Associate Athletic Director Scott Dotson says that so far three ventilation fans have failed this year. Two have been fixed and school officials aren’t sure why they’re breaking.

Dotson says the fire watch will continue for every event until the last fan is fixed.
