Australian Digital Sales Up 36%

Wholesale figures released by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) found that the Australian recorded music industry dropped 0.34 percent to A$382.7 million last year.

Physical sales were down 13.8 percent to $242.1 million, with 22.5 million units sold.

But digital sales grew by 36.7 percent to 75.5 million units to the value of A$140.5 million.

Digital now makes up 36.7 percent of the industry’s value, up from 27.2 percent the previous year.

New services Spotify, Deezer and Rdio are entering the Australian market.

ARIA said it was working with the Australian government and ISPs to combat illegal downloading.
