I’ll Be Your Mirror Postponed

The latest Tokyo edition of the I’ll Be Your Mirror arts and music festival has been postponed indefinitely, according to organizer All Tomorrow’s Parties.

The shows were scheduled for the weekend of April 14-15, but ATP announced they’d been put off until “later in the year” because of sluggish ticket sales and the inability of several artists who had been contacted to commit to the festival.

The event is being curated by musician-producer Jim O’Rourke, who makes his home in the Japanese capital. O’Rourke had so far lined up a roster of resolutely uncommercial acts, including Michael Rother, Borbetomagus and the Necks.
He was also planning to play his album Eureka in its entirety.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion was the only nominally commercial act on the bill so far.

Locally, arrangements were being made by promoter Creativeman Productions, which may have put the brakes on the project, as ATP reports that the festival was deemed by someone to be “financially unfeasible” at this point.

Music blog Tiny Mix Tapes reported a rumor that O’Rourke said he “should have included more reunions.”
