Lollapalooza Lineup 2012
Descending on Chicago’s Grant Park for the eighth consecutive year, the Aug. 3-5 celebration of music and arts called “Lollapalooza” will also feature performances by The Afghan Whigs which is touring for the first time in a decade. Ending an 11-year hiatus will be At The Drive-In.
Organizers are also trumpeting Black Sabbath’s appearance, saying it’s the only North American booking for the band.
You want more? Up-and-comers Alabama Shakes, Yellow Ostrich, LP, Oberhofer, Dry The River, Fun., Of Monsters And Men and Doomtree are also booked for this year’s extravaganza.
Other lineup notables include international acts Sigur Ros, The Weekend, M83, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Metric, The Temper Trap, Amadou & Mariam and Die Antwoord. Highlighting connections between the Chicago festival and Lollapaloozas in Brazil and Chile, the festival will also host O Rappa and Los Jaivas.
Lollapalooza will feature several acts, including Bassnectar, Kaskade, Calvin Harris, Nero, Santigold, Knife Party, Zeds Dead and Big Gigantic, in its dance venue appropriately dubbed “Perry’s.”
But electronica won’t be limited to just one area of Lollapalooza.
“This year our multi-colored lollipop swirls black and white with Black Sabbath, Jack White, and The Black Keys,” Perry Farrell said. “Two electronic acts, Justice and Avicii, will be presented on the main stages… Can it get any heavier in the park?”
You’re out of luck if you’re still hoping to snag a few of Lollapalooza’s early bird three-day passes that went on sale March 27. Those tickets sold out quickly. However, regular-price three-day passes as well as VIP Lolla Lounge Passes and travel passes are available now. Expect single-day ticket sales to launch later this summer.
