Sigur Rós Returns To The U.S.

Sigur Rós is returning from its 2008 hiatus with a new album and a brief North American summer tour.

Last time the ambient Icelandic band toured the group performed as a four-piece. The North American shows will feature up to 11 people on stage.

The first show is set for July 30 in Philadelphia at the Mann Center For Performing Arts, followed by a July 31 gig at Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Fest at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Bandshell and Aug. 1 in Toronto at Echo Beach at Ontario Place.

Sigur Rós will stop by Osheaga Festival in Montreal and Lollapalooza in Chicago. The festivals, which have yet to reveal their daily lineups, both take place Aug. 3-5.

Sigur Rós ends its North American excursion on the West Coast with stops at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre Aug. 8; Troutdale, Ore., at the Edgefield Winery Aug. 9; and Los Angeles at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Aug. 12.

The rest of the band’s summer is filled with European festival appearances between Aug. 24 through Sept. 17 including Rock En Seine Festival in Paris Aug. 24, Berlin Festival Sept. 7 and the United Kingdom’s Bestival Sept. 9.

Sigur Rós’ sixth studio effort, Valtari, is due out May 29 on XL Recordings. The album, which translates in English to “streamroller,” is the first release since 2008’s Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust. The first track of Valtari, “Ekki mukk,” is streaming on the band’s website.
