Nugent’s track record regarding his political stands is pretty well known. While performing in August 2007, the guitarist held up what looked to be two assault rifles and said, “I was in Chicago, I said, ‘Hey Obama, you might want to suck on one of these, you punk.’”

And if that wasn’t enough to get his point across, he also directed his wrath towards then-Senator Hillary Clinton, saying, “Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch.”

Nugent’s fans as well as his enemies are well acquainted with his rants. Liberal media watchdog Media Matters even tries to keep track of the rocker’s words, and has compiled several instances of his utterings, including blaming Detroit’s problems on “pimps and whores and welfare brats.” Love him or hate him, Nugent does not hold back his words.

Nugent’s latest verbal controversy is over remarks he made while appearing at the National Rifle Association’s convention in St. Louis. Speaking on a radio program broadcasting from the event, Nugent said, “if Barack Obama becomes the president in November, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”

Needless to say, Nugent’s remarks, which some have interpreted as threatening the president, didn’t go over too well with Democrats, liberals and anyone hoping that the country’s national discourse might return to the days of civil discussion. Nugent’s words made for great theatre and the 24/7 news channels were happy to comply.

But Nugent’s latest high-profile rant also attracted the attention of the Secret Service, which takes all threats as well as implied threats against the president seriously. According to ABC News, the Secret Service is conducting “the appropriate follow-up.” That is, when they’re not knee-deep in problems arising from one of their agents allegedly refusing to pay a Colombia prostitute for services rendered.

Meanwhile, Nugent has been shrugging off any condemnations from the left. Appearing on Dana Loesch’s radio show, the musician / hunting advocate / guns aficionado said he was about “positive change.”

“See, I’m a black Jew at a Nazi-Klan rally, and there are some power-abusing corrupt monsters in our federal government that despise me because I have the audacity to speak the truth to identify the violations of our government, particularly [Attorney General] Eric Holder and [U.S. Treasury Secretary] Tim Geithner, ad nauseum.

“I have never in my life threatened anyone’s life. I’m incapable of threatening anyone’s life. Because I’m about positive change, my entire speech, all my articles.”

Nugent also appeared on Glenn Beck’s radio program, telling the conservative host’s audience that he is scheduled to meet with Secret Service agents on Thursday to discuss his remarks, telling the radio audience, “The conclusion will be obvious that I threatened no one.”
