Darling Harbour’s $1B Upgrade

The New South Wales government is spending $1 billion to create an international convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

The Sydney Entertainment Centre will be demolished and replaced by an 8,000-capacity entertainment facility, suitable for international entertainment events and “mega” conferences.

GM Steve Romer said Sydney Entertainment Centre will be open for business through November 30, 2013.

“Over the past 30 years the Sydney Entertainment Centre has staged more than 4,000 concerts, attended by more than 26 million patrons and hosted some of the world’s greatest artists,” Romer said. “Throughout that time we have maintained our position as one of the highest ranking entertainment arenas in the world, whilst contributing to the economy and social wellbeing of Sydney.”

As part of the redevelopment, the Convention and Exhibition Centre will close between 2013 and 2016.
