Odds & Ends: Streisand, Hendrix And Anthrax
Barbra Streisand reportedly set to play Brooklyn in the fall, Outkast’s Andre 3000 to portray guitar legend Jimi Hendrix in biopic and Anthrax talks Mayhem Festival.
Streisand’s Brooklyn Return
But that might change this fall if this week’s Streisand rumor is true. New York City media outlets are reporting Babs will play Brooklyn’s Barclays Center arena sometime in the fall.
Unlike other rumors usually attributed to anonymous “inside sources” this one has an actual name attached to it. The New York Daily News reports that a listing depicting Streisand performing at Barclays Center appeared on Ticketmaster for a very brief time and was removed as soon as reporters began asking about the gig.
So far, no one in an official capacity is confirming Streisand playing Brooklyn, but the Daily News notes that Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yomark recently tweeted, “Big announcement this week re the barclays center. I mean big. Very exciting times for brooklyn.”

Experience Andre 3000
Although there have been claims that Outkast’s Andre 3000 will play guitar maestro Jimi Hendrix, confirmation of the casting for the film bio didn’t emerge until last week.
In a reported “exclusive” the Irish Film & Television Network announced details about the flick as well as Andre 3000 in the main role.
Titled “All Is By My Side,” the film will cover Hendrix’s life during 1966 and ’67, the years the guitar slinger went from New York City clubs to London where he recorded his spectacular debut album Are You Experienced.
Why did this information come from a source in Ireland? Probably because the film will be shot on the Emerald Isle and will be co-produced by Irish producer Tristan Orpen Lynch for Dublin-based outfit Subotica Entertainment. Other co-producers are Darko Entertainment and Britain’s Matador Pictures.
IFTN reports the six-week shoot will take place in various locales in Dublin and Wicklow. Various media reports have speculated the Ireland locations may be stand-ins for other locales, perhaps London’s 1960s club scene. “All Is By My Side” will be written and directed by John Ridley (“Three Kings,” “U-Turn”).

Anthrax Explains It All To You
Why is heritage metal band Anthrax headlining Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival’s Jägermeister stage instead of playing the tour’s mainstage with Slipknot and Slayer?”
Anthrax put out a press release today saying the band had its pick of stages and that the group has cooked up something special for the tour.
“We decided to pattern the Mayhem set on the kind of shows The Ramones used to do: a high-energy, non-stop barrage of hit, hit, hit, hit, hit. No lulls, no filler, totally in your face,” Anthrax’s Charlie Benante said. “We’re going to be playing a supersonic-paced set loaded with the best of our best.”
If Benante’s quote doesn’t make Anthrax’s intentions clear enough, Scott Ian also added a few words of wisdom to today’s announcement.
“We really like the idea of not ‘playing to seats’ and we want our crowd to have the freedom to move around, to go crazy with us,” Ian said. “Plus, we’ve been on the road together now for about two years, so we’re tighter as a band than we’ve ever been. Our Mayhem set will be a fun, fast and furious 45-minutes, so they’d better have the EMTs ready.”
