VH Offers Twofers

When Van Halen became the first big act to postpone dates this summer, everybody and their sister had an opinion as to why – from recurring cancer to egos to exhaustion. Meanwhile, the SF Weekly has another idea.

Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., has just announced a two-for-one deal. A blog in the SF Weekly announced it with the headline “They Are Now Literally Giving Away Tickets To See Van Halen This Sunday.”

Which they are. Sort of. It’s a two-for-one deal for the nosebleeds. Buy a $38 ticket (with a $12 fee) and the second one comes with it. When Pollstar checked for tickets, all that were available were for side-of-stage, upper level.

“But still!” the SF Weekly wrote. “They’re giving away a ticket to go see Van Halen! We don’t see this often – in fact, we don’t remember seeing it with any other recent major show. But if Van Halen have to give away seats to see them, maybe that sheds some light on why the boys were so keen on canceling (sic) a whole other leg of this summer’s planned tour.”

The terminology should be “postponed,” with Japan still on the books. And Pollstar isn’t so sure – in the days of Groupon – that great deals cannot be had for the worst seats on major arena shows, at the last minute. But the SF Weekly isn’t all wet, either.
