Bee Gees Statue

Calls for a statue of the Bee Gees to be erected in Redcliffe, Queensland, are getting louder in the wake of Robin Gibb’s death.

The Queensland government will not contribute financially, but the Brisbane Airport Corporation kicked off the campaign with a A$5,000 (US$4,823) donation.

The UK-born Bee Gees grew up in the Redcliffe peninsula, where their musical career launched. UK-based cousin Hazel Gibb told Brisbane radio 4BC the family tried to secure Robin a knighthood from the UK government when he fell ill.

Knighthoods are not granted posthumously so the push for one has begun for sole surviving sibling Barry to get the title “Sir.”
