Bob Welch Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch died June 7 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his Nashville home, where police say his wife found him.

Police said Welch, 65, left a suicide note and was in poor health recently. Welch did guitar and vocals for Fleetwood Mac from 1971 to 1974, the transitional period between founder Peter Green’s blues-inspired incarnation of the band and the mainstream success of the mid-’70s with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

Welch also had a solo career, including 1977’s French Kiss album, which went platinum and included contributions from Mac’s Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie. Controversy came in 1998 when the band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame without Welch.
