Taxman After Lauryn Hill

It looks as if Lauryn Hill doesn’t like to pay her taxes. The Internal Revenue Service has charged her for failing to file income tax returns for three consecutive years.

The I.R.S. alleges Hill didn’t file during years 2005-2007 even though she earned more than $1.6 million during that time period. Guess it must have slipped her mind.

Turns out Hill has several income streams and doesn’t have to rely on record sales or concert appearances to put food on the table. Citing court papers, the Associated Press reports that although Hill’s major income source comes from royalties from recording and film, the Grammy-winning artist owns and operates four corporations – Creations Music, Boogie Tours, L.H. Productions 2001 and Studio 22.

So far there’s been no word from Hill’s people regarding today’s I.R.S. announcement. The former Fugees member is scheduled to appear before a magistrate judge June 29.
