No Revamp For Evansville Arena
The aging Roberts Stadium should be torn down and its 37-acre location turned into a city park, Evansville, Ind., Mayor Lloyd Winnecke recommended June 6.
The 12,252-capacity venue, built in 1955, was shuttered in September just before the opening of the $127 million, 10,900-capacity Ford Center. City officials have been debating the venue’s future ever since.
A task force reported in April that remodeling the stadium could cost more than a new building.
Winnecke asked the city’s Board of Parks Commission to make a decision by its July 18 meeting.
