Allen Stone Announces Fall Tour
The 25-year-old singer/songwriter self-released his self-titled album digitally last year, which entered the Top 5 of iTunes’ R&B/soul charts. After recently signing to ATO Records, the album will get its wide release July 31.
Several publications have called Stone an artist to keep an eye on.
Forbes warns that you shouldn’t be fooled by his appearance, noting that although “his tangle of blond locks and lumberjack sweater” may make you think “he looks less like a soul singer and more like someone you’d find selling hemp necklaces in Big Sur,” Stone is the real deal. The magazine describes a live rendition of his song “Unaware,” as “sounding something like the love child of Stevie Wonder and a resurrected Amy Winehouse, if not better.”
The New York Times compared Stone’s music to the tunes you’d hear in “the late 1960s and early ‘70s, when songwriters like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers brought introspection and social commentary to soul music.”
Don’t just take Forbes’ and the Times’ word. You can check out “Unaware” for yourself at the bottom of this page and visit Stone’s website, where his album is streaming.
First, let’s talk about Stone’s fall tour. After spending the summer playing festivals and appearing with Al Green, SOJA and Dave Matthews Band, the fall tour officially begins Sept. 24 at Philadelphia’s World Café Live. The excursion ends with a gig in Canada at Toronto’s Opera House Concert Venue Nov. 14.
Stops on the route include Washington, D.C. (Sept. 27); Atlanta (Oct. 4); Houston (Oct. 13); Solana Beach, Calif. (Oct. 17); Des Moines, Iowa (Nov. 3) and Cleveland (Nov. 11).
Tingsek, Sister Sparrow, Yuna and Selah Sue provide support on select dates.
A limited number of pre-sale tickets, including early entry plus a limited download, will be available to fan club members beginning June 19 through Stone’s website and Facebook page. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning June 21. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Keep A Breast Foundation in honor of Stone’s mother, a breast cancer survivor.
