Stolen: Steel Cables From Indiana Fair Stage

Thieves broke into a warehouse and stole part of the stage rigging structure that collapsed at last year’s Indiana State Fair and killed seven.

State police discovered the break-in July 9 at the Indianapolis warehouse, where the wreckage was being stored under court order. In addition to missing steel cables, the building’s electrical wiring was stripped. State police captain Dave Bursten said thieves were most likely looking for metal to sell.

“They broke in for the purpose of stripping the electrical wiring from the facility and then while they were there, criminals being criminals, it was, ‘Oh, there’s something else we can steal,’” Bursten said.

He said it appears that thieves “circumvented” the building’s security system.
