Salt-N-Pepa Concert Gets Crowded

A free Salt-N-Pepa concert in Buffalo, N.Y., Aug. 16 seemed to hit the right note with too many fans, leading to some being turned away at the gate.

Authorities told the Buffalo News they estimated 15,000 people attended the show at Buffalo Place – a record – but added they made the call to close the gates when they became concerned the crowd would overwhelm the site.

“We had to shut the event area down,” Buffalo Place’s Michael Schmand said. “We accommodated as many as we could, but it gets to a certain point where you have to say there is no more room at the inn.”

Those who were turned away weren’t completely out of luck, however. Schmand estimated more than 1,000 people stuck around to listen to the concert outside the gates.

The Buffalo News noted that the Salt-N-Pepa show marked the first time a waterfront concert crowd had ever been turned away.

The next free concert on the books for the “Thursday at the Harbor” series is Matt Nathanson Aug. 23.
