Midem Tries To Catch Early Birds

Those who sign up for next year’s Midem before Sept. 30 can do it for a cut-price euro 495 ($624).

The annual gathering in the south of France has published its “early bird” rates, which all show substantial discounts from the full price of euro 895 ($1,128).

Midem, like Germany’s Popkomm, has suffered from falling attendance in recent years, hampered by a shrinking recorded music business, tough economic times and the raft of new music industry conferences that are springing up throughout Europe.

They keynote speech for next year’s gathering will come from Lang Lang, the Chinese concert pianist who lives in New York.

The full conference schedule is yet to be announced but will include The Networking Village, sessions on publishing, collecting societies and legal issues and showcases for upcoming talent.

Midem 2013 is Jan. 26-29.
