Crosby, Stills & Nash Performing With Tom Morello

Crobsy, Stills & Nash and Tom Morello are helping get out the message about California’s “No on Proposition 32 campaign” by playing a special concert in Los Angeles early next month.

The show is scheduled Oct. 3 at Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE. Actor Edward James Olmos will also make an appearance at the event. According to the Los Angeles Times, the concert will raise awareness and money to defeat the proposition.

California’s official voter information guides states that Prop 32 prohibits unions, corporations and government contractors “from using payroll-deducted funds for political purposes.” It also restricts contributions to candidates, elected officers and their committees.

The California League of Women Voters, the California Alliance for Retired Americans, consumer groups and many firefighters, nurses, teachers and police officers oppose the proposition because they say it is misleading and unfairly targets middle class workers from participating in the political process while leaving loopholes for corporations.

Here’s what Morello had to say about Prop 32 in a statement issued Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times:

“Out-of-state corporations are using Prop. 32 to tilt the playing field even more in their direction and away from real people. This is about oil, tobacco, banking and insurance companies gaining the power necessary to re-write laws to fit their agenda … [of] more tax credits for shipping jobs overseas, weaker consumer protections and relaxing air quality laws.”

In addition to promoting the No on Prop 32 campaign, the Oct. 3 event will benefit two Los Angeles area schools.

The non-profit Guacamole Fund is selling preferred seating tickets to the concert as well as a pre-show reception, which will raise funds for CHAMPS Charter High School of Arts-Multimedia & Performing in Van Nuys and Highland Hall Waldorf School in Northridge.

Although the Gold Circle tickets, which include a meet & greet with CSN, are sold out, a limited number of Silver Circle and Green Circle tickets are still available through the Guacamole Fund’s website.

The nonprofit strategic research and advocacy group Working Californians is giving out a limited number of tickets to the show. Fans can sign up at TruthOnProp32.org for a chance to get a free ticket.
