The shows featuring original Rascals Felix Cavaliere, Gene Cornish, Eddie Brigati and Dino Danelli are set for the Capital Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., Dec. 13-15. But the events come with a caveat – the project will only be funded if the Kickstarter campaign receives $100,000 by Oct. 24.

In a posting on the “Once Upon A Dream” Kickstarter page, Van Zandt said the shows would be a combination of a “rock concert and a Broadway show” and would be complimented by film and news footage of the band that gave the world such blue-eyed soul classics as “People Gotta Be Free,” “Groovin’” and “Good Lovin.’”

This won’t be the first time the band that started out as “The Young Rascals” has reunited, but the December gigs will mark the original lineup’s first public performance in 40 years. The band got back together in 1997 when Van Zandt inducted them into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.

A second reunion happened 13 years later when the group appeared at Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Grill in New York City in 2010 for an evening benefitting the Kristen Ann Carr Fund’s “A Night To Remember,” which became extra memorable when the Rascals were joined by Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen for “Good Lovin’.”

As with many Kickstarter campaigns, you have a menu of options to choose from. Aa $100 or more pledge guarantees that your name and photo will appear alongside 1960s icons such as Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison during a series of images projected on the venue’s walls and stage before the performances. Folks pledging $1,000 or more will receive a “Once Upon A Dream” DVD/CD signed by all four original Rascals, plus plenty of swag and four books about rock ’n’ roll personally selected by Van Zandt.

“Not one dollar that is contributed will go into anyone’s pocket, or be commissioned in any way,” Van Zandt wrote on the “Once Upon A Dream” Kickstarter page. “Every dollar will go into the production making it as good as it can be.”
