During a press conference held at the base of Rio’s magnificent “Christ The Redeemer” statue, Rock In Rio president Roberto Medina said Springsteen & The E Street Band would appear Sept. 15, Metallica Sept. 19 and Iron Maiden Sept. 22. The festival runs Sept. 13-15 and 19-22, 2013 at Rock City.

Metallica and Iron Maiden aren’t strangers to Rock In Rio. Metallica has played the festival six times. As for Iron Maiden, the band appeared on the first Rock In Rio lineup back in 1985 and returned in 2001.

Springsteen’s a different matter. Medina noted that The Boss has never played Rock In Rio and that it’s been more than two decades since he played anywhere in Brazil. The last time Springsteen & The E Street Band performed in that country was during the 1988 Human Rights Tour.
