A Note To Fans, From Morrissey

Morrissey has typed up a charming message to fans about his recent hospital stay, discussing his ailments and North American tour. The British singer says that if he doesn’t resume his tour next week, he “shall probably never again be anywhere.”

Earlier this week Moz postponed six gigs scheduled Jan. 28-29, Jan. 31, Feb 2 and Feb. 5-6, following a handful of gigs called off the week before that. A spokeswoman released a statement saying the former Smiths frontman had checked into Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., Jan. 25. The announcement noted that he had been diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer and was “expected to make a full recovery.”

Morrissey wants to tell you all about his health in his own words. The following statement was posted on the website for the Morrissey zine “True To You” Jan. 31.

“The reports of my death have been greatly understated. Once admitted to the William Beaumont Hospital at Royal Oak in Michigan, I received treatment for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett’s esophagus. The positive from all of this is that there are now no known ailments left for me to try.

“I am fully determined to resume the tour on February 9 at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas. If there’s an audience of any kind in attendance, I just might die with a smile on my face, after all. If I am not there, I shall probably never again be anywhere.

“Equally, I am determined to play Flint (Michigan) if it kills me (which, on the face of it, it almost has.)

“Thank you to everyone present at both Brooklyn (New York) and Melbourne (Australia) during recent weeks for two of the best nights of what might charitably be termed my ‘career.’ My debt to you will outlive time itself.

“pause at my headstone,
MORRISSEY
31 January 2013.”

The canceled Jan. 24 Flint show was one of the gigs that had already been rescheduled once before when Morrissey postponed his fall 2012 tour to be with his mother who was hospitalized in England. In addition to the Feb. 9 show in Las Vegas, Morrissey has dates scheduled through early March with stops in Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.

Along with Flint, new dates are yet to be announced for postponed shows in Minneapolis; Chicago; Asheville, N.C.; Nashville; Atlanta; Lawrence, Kan.; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Neb.
