Germany Ramps Up For Oscars

What have become the Oscars of the German live entertainment business have begun ramping up for their eighth edition by announcing the shortlists for four of 15 categories.

It provides a taste of what might unfold at the PRG Live Entertainment Awards, which are at Frankfurt Festhalle April 9, and serves as a useful reminder for potential ticket-buyers.

Hamburg-based Karsten Jahnke is so far the only company to be nominated in two categories, for Best Club Tour (Till Brönner) and Show Of The Year (Blaze).

The other two shortlists that have been made public are Best Arena Tour and Best Manager.

The Frankfurt Festhalle bash could turn out to be quite a celebration for the German live music business as one of the main thrusts of the LEA press release is what a wonderful time it’s having.

“All those who make their money by providing this country with culture report figures that are climbing once again,” it says.

“So in 2012, we were able to breathe again and celebrate that the worst was over after the economic crisis.

“This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, since, after all, their commodity – a terribly disdainful word for such beauty and mystery – was, is, and will forever remain ‘undownloadable,’ but sought after.”
