Flemming Schmidt RIP
More than 300 attended the funeral of Danish promoter Flemming Schmidt at Hellerup Church Feb. 26.
Schmidt lost his 18-month battle against cancer and died peacefully surrounded by his family at Herlev Hospital, near Copenhagen, Feb. 16. He was 63.
Since his death, major live music business players such as Thomas Johannson, Rune Lem, John Giddings, Leon Ramakers, Barry Dickins and Herman Schueremans have paid tribute to their former friend and colleague.
Schmidt is survived by his wife Mette and three children, Juliana, Johannes and Camilla.
He was the third well-known European promoter to die this year, following the passing of German promoter Henning Toegel and Montreux Jazz Festival founder Claude Nobs.
