Vibe Going Digital
Just as Spin was spun into an online-only publication at the end of 2012, Vibe is set to cease printing in the coming months after a purchase by SpinMedia.
The 20-year-old R&B and hip-hop magazine will eventually be integrated into SpinMedia’s platform and ad sales, according to the Wall Street Journal’s All Things D.
SpinMedia CEO Steve Hansen told the tech blog the Vibe purchase will help boost the company’s profile in the 18-34 demographic and add multicultural readership. Hansen’s reportedly been hard at work raising millions to expand SpinMedia.
There is one downside to the sale, however. Layoffs are in the works for some of Vibe Media’s 52 employees, All Thing D noted.
