New Zealand country music acts are taking Keith Urban’s lead in breaking into the Australian market.

Kaylee Bell, who moved to Australia, this year became the first New Zealander since Urban to win the Toyota Starmaker competition.  Others as Camille & Stuie and Kylie Price have won major Aussie awards while Aly Cooke landed two hits in the Australian country Top 20.

As a result, this year’s Gympie Music Muster in Queensland is holding its first New Zealand showcase. It features Cooke’s songwriter trio The Sou’westers, Bell, Camille & Stuie, Price, Tami Neilson  who thrice won Best Country Album at the New Zealand Music Awards, and bluesman Billy TK Junior.

The 32-year old Gympie Muster draws 50,000 over four days August.
