Rivers Goes Japanese

Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo has released a joint album in Japan with Scott Murphy of the punk band Allister. Scott & Rivers, released by local Universal boutique label Delicious Deli, is 12 tracks of original material sung in Japanese.

Murphy has already released many tracks in Japan in Japanese, mostly cover versions of Japanese pop and rock songs, and he regularly performs in Japan as a solo act. Cuomo’s wife is Japanese, and the collaboration with Murphy dates back to 2009 when he approached him for advice in doing his own Japanese-language album.

In a press release, Murphy said, “I grew up listening to Weezer, so at first it was a little surreal to be working on a record with Rivers.” The album, which was released in Japan in March, is now available overseas through iTunes.
