Hibbert was struck in the head by a large vodka bottle an audience member threw at him during an acoustic set at the Dominion Riverrock festival May 18. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for a cut to his head.

Though the band postponed the remainder of its spring tour at the time of the incident, it did note the shows would be rescheduled later in the year after Hibbert was given “a clean bill of health from his doctors.”

But based on Hibbert’s continuing medical troubles, the band announced in a statement on its website June 17 that all future performances including a Groovin In The Park slot in New York City June 30 and a six-week European tour have also been canceled.

“This unavoidable decision was made by Toots’ medical team as it has been determined that any performances at this time could seriously compromise the artiste’s health and well being,” the band said.

Hibbert recently attended the arraignment of William Connor Lewis, the 19-year-old man who was caught on tape throwing the bottle and later charged with felony assault and public drunkenness.

He’s filed a $21 million civil action against the man, who will go before a grand jury on the felony charge July 1.
