Alan Meyers Dies

Former Devo drummer Alan Meyers has died following a battle with cancer.

Meyers, who joined Devo in 1976 to replace Jim Mothersbaugh and left in the mid ’80s, was the most prominent drummer for the group, playing on the hit single “Whip It” and albums including Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, Duty Now for the Future and Freedom of Choice.

After leaving Devo, he stayed active in the Los Angeles music scene, founding the band Skyline Electric and playing in the experimental music ensemble Swahili Blonde with his daughter.
