Glitter Finds Cash Oasis
The UK tabloid reported that Glitter will earn even more from future royalties after taking legal action against the now-defunct Manchester band for copyright infringement. In 1999 Glitter (real name Paul Gadd) received an estimated £200,000 for copyright infringement after taking legal action against Oasis.
The case related to “Hello,” the opening track on the Oasis album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, which sampled lyrics from Glitter’s 1973 hit “Hello, Hello, I’m Back Again.”
In the 15 years since its release, the Oasis album has sold 22 million copies worldwide.
The Sun, which has frequently vilified Glitter for sexual deviancy, reminded readers that he was jailed for four months in 1999 for downloading child pornography. In 2006 he also began a three-year prison sentence in Vietnam for molesting two girls.
