BMan Expansion Approved

Nevada’s annual weeklong Burning Man art and lifestyle festival was granted a four-year recreation permit with a higher attendance cap of 68,000 people.

The Bureau of Land Management granted the permit in late July with the stipulation that nonprofit organizers Black Rock City LLC comply with 60 conditions related to traffic, security, public safety, resource management and cleanup.

BMan spokeswoman Megan Miller said the multiyear permit allows organizers to move forward on plans to add a shuttle bus service to the event and infrastructure improvements.

“We have always been confident in our ability to grow the event safely and sustainably and have been asking the BLM for this increase for several years,” she said. “We have always had a safe and engaging event and look forward to another great event on the playa this year.”

More than 53,000 Burners from around the world attended last year’s festival at the Black Rock Desert, about 100 miles north of Reno.

The annual gathering brings millions of dollars into Nevada’s economy.

This year’s Burning Man takes place Aug. 26 to Sept. 2.
