Moby’s Three Nights With ‘Innocents’
Moby’s Innocents lands in stores Oct. 1 via Mute with the gigs in support of the disc scheduled for the days following the release. Make that Oct. 2, 3, & 4 on your concert calendar with the venue being Los Angeles’ The Fonda.
Each show will be split into two parts with the first half featuring songs from Innocents and the second half giving you a mix of greatest hits. Word from Moby’s camp is that Innocents is his “most collaborative effort to date” and that the shows will include “very special guests,” indicating that these three October evenings will be special nights indeed.
The album also marks a couple of firsts in Moby’s career. Unlike past efforts, Innocents is the first album helmed by an outside producer. Mark “Spike” Stent is that man and his credits include Madonna, U2, Muse, Bjork and Massive Attack.
Innocents is also the first Moby album filled with collaborations. Included on the guest list are Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, Mark Lanegan, Cold Specks, Skylar Grey, Damien Jurado and Inyang Bassey.
Another first is more on the visual side with Moby directing his first music video, stepping behind the camera for “A Case For Shame.”
“This video is about dying and going to a realm populated by the recently deceased,” Moby said. “At first glance the recently deceased seem frightening and odd, as they’re wearing conventionally strange and scary masks. But then you realize that the recently deceased aren’t trying to be scary, they’re wearing the masks because they’re ashamed.”
