Odds & Ends: Roger Waters, Cher & Miley, Ricky Gervais

Roger Waters admits he was wrong to sue his former Pink Floyd bandmates … Ricky Gervais’ David Brent character of “The Office” fame is booking a few gigs in October … Cher says she’s ashamed of snarky comments she made about Miley Cyrus.

During a recent interview with BBC’s HARDtalk program Roger Waters reflected on the lawsuit he filed against David Gilmour and Nick Mason in 1986. After leaving the band in 1985, Waters sued the musicians to stop them from continuing on as a group and using the band’s name.

“I was wrong! Of course I was. Who cares?” Waters told the BBC, which noted that after two years the case was settled out of court during a Christmas Eve meeting on Gilmour’s houseboat.

“It’s one of the few times that the legal profession has taught me something. Because when I went to these chaps and said, ‘Listen we’re broke, this isn’t Pink Floyd anymore,’ they went, ‘What do you mean? That’s irrelevant, it is a label and it has commercial value. You can’t say it’s going to cease to exist… you obviously don’t understand English jurisprudence.’”

Ricky Gervais is bringing his utterly awkward, but much beloved British sitcom character David Brent to the stage. The general manager of the Slough branch of the paper company Wernham Hogg, who entertained his co-workers with his skills on the acoustic guitar, would be thrilled to have his rock ’n’ roll dreams come true.

Earlier this week Gervais tweeted, “David Brent is going to do a couple of very cheap, very low key warm up gigs with Forgone Conclusion in London this October. Stay tuned.”

That’s right. Get ready to hear another rendition of “Free Love Freeway.”

On Thursday Gervais gave his Twitter followers a tip about the shows, tweeting, “Follow @DavidBrent to get the venue and ticket info for the Foregone Conclusion gigs a day before everyone else. Good luck!”

In the meantime, check out Brent’s latest guitar lesson.

Miley Cyrus’ infamous VMA appearance just won’t go away. Cher recently had some harsh words to say about the pop star’s performance and appearance when speaking to USA Today.

“I’m not old-fashioned,” Cher said. “She could have come out naked, and if she’d just rocked the house, I would have said, ‘You go, girl.’ It just wasn’t done well. She can’t dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn’t great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don’t stick out your tongue if it’s coated.”

Since the interview was published Tuesday, Cher took to Twitter to say she was a “little ashamed” about the criticism. (Sidenote: For some reason Cher refers to Miley Cyrus as M.S., rather than M.C.)

“Re:Miley S….I Think What I Think, but Having Said That…I’m a little ashamed (which is Total bullshit, how can u B a LITTLE ASHAMED) that I didn’t keep my big Opinionated mouth Shut.WTF is MY PROBLEM ! I’m 2 Old to fall prey 2 “Tell us, Oh wise 1,What did YOU think of M.S ?

“What I should have said,”I didn’t like it that much,but she’s Pushing The Envelope,being an ARTIST ! She’s Talented,& DIDNT COMMIT A FELONY

“But somehow my ego had 2 get ITS 2 CENTS IN! MY BIG ASS ‘BAD’,I DIDNT SUPPORT A FELLOW ARTIST. TRUTHFULLY SHE WAS Fkng BRILLIANT..CAUSE…

“WE’RE STILL TALKING ABOUT IT. Ps this is Not an apology 4 what I Thought, its a Reminder, that if I don’t practice my principles,I loose Them.”
