Mnet Awards In HK
Though touted as an awards show to honor Asian pop music, it was started by the music channel Mnet, which is operated by CJ E&M, one of South Korea’s major talent agencies and music production companies.
Consequently, most of the artists honored are Korean, but the awards are now held in other Asian countries.
Han Dong Chul, general manager of Mnet, said in a statement that “Since it is Asia’s greatest music festival, Hong Kong is the ideal venue for MAMA given the city’s location as a geographical and cultural international hub.”
Last year’s MAMA was also in Hong Kong.
Some of the international artists who have appeared at the awards ceremony in the past include Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Jason Mraz.
The lineup of this year’s show has yet to be announced.
