A Glimps Of Belgium

Belgium’s contribution to the international showcase and conference circuit has named more than 60 acts for this year’s edition Dec. 13-14.

Glimps, in line with most of its peers, aims to direct people’s attention to talented bands and artists from regions that “rarely get a chance in the programme of most European clubs and festivals.”

The showcases take place across several venues in Ghent, the capital and largest city of the East Flanders province.

Although now in its third year, Glimps hasn’t attracted the crowds or media attention enjoyed by such neighbours as Reeperbahn Festival or Eurosonic-Noorderslag.

It’s at least trying to redress that situation by having an increased presence at this year’s Reeperbahn, including Maarten Quaghebeur from Glimps appearing on a panel about “Popfunding.”

The Glimps formula is similar to that of its neighbours.

The evening performances are preceded by a daytime conference schedule that includes panels, discussions, workshops, speedmeetings, and various other networking sessions.

So far the lineup includes Flying Horseman, Dans Dans, The Rhythm Junks, Manngold de Cobre, Lili Grace, and Soldier’s Heart.
