Homebake Downsizes,
Adds A Day

In its 18th year, Sydney’s Homebake festival has moved to the steps of Sydney Opera House to be part of the world-famous venue’s 40th anniversary.

Homebake, which only books Aussie acts, has downsized from a 20,000-capacity, day-long event to 5,000 capacity over three days.

Paul Kelly and Gurrumul Yunupingu headline a folk-rock bill Dec. 6.

The Presets and Cat Empire top the Dec. 7 dance-oriented bill, and Birds of Tokyo, Bernard Fanning, You Am I, The Rubens and the Beasts of Bourbon will play Dec. 8’s rock day.

Homebake co-promoter Michael Chugg recalled how he staged Crowded House, Split Enz, Stevie Wright and Skyhooks on the Opera House steps.
