Journalist Richard Sleeman sued Palms on Oxford nightclub after he was refused entry in December 2011, with the doorman loudly accusing him of being drunk.

Sleeman sued citing age discrimination and defamation.

The court dismissed his claims of ageism as speculative and, despite the man’s denials of being intoxicated, the doorman had sufficient reason to believe that he was.

The club’s attorney said the case sent a message to other nightclubs and music venues that they have the right to choose whom they allow in.
