Gaga Japan
She appeared on at least four TV programs and seemed everywhere at once, which wasn’t as much of an illusion as it sounds.
On Dec. 1, she gave a press conference in Tokyo where she was presented with four life-size replicas of herself, complete with silicon skin and outrageous wardrobes and hairstyles.
“They look so much like me,” she said approvingly. “I respect your art … and the detail you put into the dolls.”
They were created by Orient Industry in cooperation with Universal Music. Orient manufactures synthetic “love dolls,” another commercial concept approved by Gaga.
While the expressions are fixed, each Gaga mannequin plays her songs, as well as secret messages.
As an Orient representative explained, the dolls utilize “bond conduction technology,” only without the bones.
Besides being foils for press conferences, it wasn’t clear what commercial applications the dolls fulfilled.
Gaga also announced a new charity drive for the disaster-affected Tohoku region that will have the diva auctioning off a giant “Gaga-inspired” Hello Kitty doll.
In Japan, you can’t have too many dolls.
