GM Accused Of $100K Theft

Facing charges of embezzling $100,000 from a Princeton University theatrical club since 2010, Thomas Muza has been suspended as general manager of the school’s McCarter Theatre and fired as part-time accountant of the Triangle Club.

Muza is accused of stealing from accounts of the club, where he has served as a part-time accountant for 20 years, and is charged with second-degree theft.

He surrendered to detectives and was released on his own recognizance, while maintaining his innocence.

Authorities say Muza wrote checks to himself from the Triangle Club, whose alumni include F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jimmy Stewart, Jose Ferrer and Brooke Shields.

In one case he allegedly used a troupe check to pay $30,000 toward personal credit card debt.

The local attorney general’s office said it believes he began pinching from the club’s coffers by 2010 and is investigating when the alleged crimes began.

“The members and trustees of the Triangle Club trusted Muza as a prominent, longstanding member of Princeton’s theater community, but he corruptly betrayed their trust,” said acting AG John Hoffman.

Muza was fired from his $4,000-a-month job with the Triangle Club in November.
