Sutherland allegedly made NZ$26,368 ($21,850) advertising a train ride from Christchurch to Dunedin to see the piano man.
However, at the last minute, fans were told they’d have to take the 380km trip by bus.
Fans who paid extra for “celebration class” received none of the extra benefits promised.
Sutherland, who now lives in rented accommodations and claimed NZ$4.50 in the bank, also had to repay the money paid by fans.
Sutherland claimed he was being more “reckless than deceitful” but the judge didn’t buy that.
Sutherland hired and fired five lawyers during the court case.
